(Almost) Sugar-Free Brown Sugar

I find it pretty funny that, for some reason, many people think that brown sugar is healthy. They are probably mistaking it for unrefined sugar, which is table sugar that has not been bleached. Unrefined cane sugar is healthier than white sugar, but I still try to avoid it whenever possible.

When it comes down to it, sugar is sugar is sugar.

Brown sugar is simply refined sugar that is colored with molasses.. Not exactly a health food. However, it does taste delicious and is much-needed for certain recipes such as blondies
What if there was a way to get that same taste without all the gut-expanding simple carbs?
There is!
I received a shipment of erythritol the other day that inspired me to make my own low-sugar, low-calorie brown "sugar". It is very simple to make and a cup only contains about 50 calories (compared to 830 in brown sugar!)

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup erythritol
  • 1 tbs. molasses or maple syrup {I used maple syrup}
Doesn't it look good?
Directions:
  • Combine ingredients in bowl
  • Whisk with fork until all of the syrup mixes with the erythritol and granules become a golden color
